Why custom WordPress?
WordPress without the stress
WordPress is a flexible content management system that allows you to update pages, text and imagery without relying on a developer for every change.
The difficulty often comes from websites built with bloated themes, too many plugins or editing systems that are confusing behind the scenes.
I take a more considered approach. Your website only includes the tools and functionality it actually needs, with an editing setup shaped around your content.
Where appropriate, websites also include:
- Responsive layouts
- Search friendly page structure
- Performance optimisation
- Secure development practices
- Image and content editing tools
- Reusable page sections
- Training and handover support
How the process works
From planning to launch
Plan
We define the purpose of the website, the users it needs to serve and the functionality it requires.
From there, I create a clear sitemap and project scope so everyone understands what is being designed and built.
Design
I can design the website as part of the project or work from files supplied by your designer or agency.
Layouts are based on clear user journeys, responsive behaviour and helping visitors find the information they need.
Develop
Once the designs are agreed, I develop and test the website across different devices and screen sizes.
The WordPress editing experience is also considered carefully, so managing the finished site feels straightforward rather than technical.
Working with me
Design and development handled together
I manage projects from the initial brief through planning, design, development and launch.
Because I work across both design and development, there is no disconnect between how a website is intended to look and how it eventually works. What is approved during the design stage is carried through carefully into the finished build.
I have more than ten years of industry experience, including six years in a senior agency role and previous experience as a Creative Director. I have worked on projects for organisations including CERN, The Guardian, Lexus and Amazon, alongside independent businesses, agencies and growing teams.
That experience helps me manage projects clearly, anticipate potential issues and keep the process moving without unnecessary layers of communication.
Why work with a freelancer?
You work directly with the person designing and developing your website.
There are no account managers, lengthy handovers or separate teams interpreting the same brief differently. This keeps communication clearer, decisions faster and the final result more consistent.
It also gives you flexibility. I can take responsibility for a complete website project, collaborate with your existing designer, or provide development support as part of a larger agency team.

FAQs
WordPress development questions
Can you design and develop the complete website?
Yes. I can manage planning, website design, WordPress development and launch as one complete project.
Can you build from designs supplied by another designer?
Yes. I regularly develop websites from approved designs supplied by agencies, designers and internal marketing teams.
Will I be able to update the website myself?
Yes. The editing experience is planned around your content, and I provide training or guidance before handover.
Do you use WordPress page builders?
I usually favour custom themes and structured content fields over heavy page builders. This creates a cleaner editing experience and helps reduce unnecessary code and functionality.
The right approach will still depend on the project, budget and how your team prefers to work.
Can you add a blog, portfolio or membership area?
Yes. I can create blogs, case studies, portfolio sections, protected content and other tailored functionality where required.
Can you improve an existing WordPress website?
Yes. This might involve fixing specific issues, creating new sections, improving performance or rebuilding the site on a cleaner foundation.
For larger redesigns, the Website Refreshes and Rebuilds service may be more suitable.
Do you work with agencies?
Yes. I provide white label and freelance WordPress development for agencies that need additional capacity or a dependable development partner.
