Shane Fontaine

A refined personal identity for a cryptocurrency auditor and developer, designed to feel technical and credible without relying on familiar crypto branding.

The project

Shane Fontaine is an experienced auditor and developer working within the cryptocurrency industry.

Having worked together previously on a company identity, Shane returned to me to create a more personal brand that would support his reputation and visibility within the crypto community. I developed a distinctive monogram and restrained visual system that feels technical, modern and professional without appearing overly corporate or conventionally “crypto”.

Building a brand around the individual

This project focused on positioning Shane as an individual expert rather than representing a wider company.

The identity needed to support his reputation as a leading auditor and developer, giving him a recognisable visual presence that could be used across professional communications, online profiles and industry-facing materials.

Avoiding predictable crypto design

Cryptocurrency brands often rely on bright gradients, coins, blockchain symbols and futuristic visual effects.

Shane wanted an identity that felt relevant to the technology sector without following these familiar conventions. The design direction therefore focused on precision, structure and understated technical detail rather than obvious cryptocurrency imagery.

Developing the monogram

The final mark is built from Shane’s initials, using a series of clean angular strokes to create a compact geometric monogram.

The letterforms have been simplified and partially abstracted, giving the symbol a coded or constructed quality. This reflects the logic and precision associated with software development and auditing while retaining a clear connection to Shane’s name.

The open structure and negative space prevent the mark from feeling too heavy, allowing it to remain distinctive at both large and small sizes.

Creating a technical visual language

A subtle diagonal grid was introduced as a supporting graphic device.

This grid reinforces the sense of systems, structure and interconnected logic behind the identity without competing with the monogram. It provides an additional layer of detail across larger applications such as presentation covers, reports and digital backgrounds.

Typography and wordmark

The wordmark uses widely spaced uppercase lettering to create a calm, precise and contemporary feel.

Its geometric character complements the angular monogram, while the generous spacing gives the personal name a more established and confident presence.

The combination of symbol and wordmark was designed to feel considered and premium rather than overly futuristic.

A restrained colour palette

The identity uses a predominantly monochrome palette of charcoal, grey and white.

This gives the brand a professional and adaptable quality while helping it stand apart from the highly saturated colours often associated with cryptocurrency businesses.

The high-contrast palette also works effectively across digital platforms, printed materials and presentation documents.

Flexible brand applications

The monogram was designed to work both alongside the full name and as a standalone mark.

This makes it suitable for profile imagery, favicons, report covers, stationery, notebooks, presentation slides and other smaller applications where the full wordmark may not be practical.

The wider system remains minimal enough to adapt as Shane’s work and professional profile continue to develop.

The result

The completed identity gives Shane a distinctive personal brand that reflects the technical and analytical nature of his work.

The geometric monogram, structured grid and restrained palette create a professional visual presence that feels connected to the cryptocurrency sector without relying on predictable industry symbolism.

Client feedback

“Sofi did an outstanding job with two separate engagements I had with her. She provided me with an incredible number of options for both my personal brand and a company logo. I was able to iterate quickly with her, and she listened to all my feedback, which led to the exact outcome I was hoping for.”
